Backing up Fulcrum LiveScan Databases

Modified on Fri, 18 Aug 2023 at 10:30 PM

1. Gaining Access to the Fulcrum LiveScan Database Folder

First, you will want to ensure that you can see and access the Database folder location. This folder tree is

hidden by default for most and will not be visible to users or Administrators who have not modified

these settings.

You can do this in a few ways.

Via the Explorer Ribbon:

Enable the ‘Hidden Items” option in your Windows Explorer Ribbon.

Next click the ‘Options’ to the right of that to enable

the “Show hidden files, folders, and drives”. Click

Apply then OK once your selection has been made.

Via the Windows Start Menu:

You can also get to Folder Options via typing the search bar

connected to your Start/Windows button:

2. Performing Backup Operations

The default install path for Fulcrum LiveScan Databases is:

C:\ProgramData\Fulcrum Biometrics\LiveScan

In this folder you will minimally want to capture the entire “Database” folder as it contains the database

files for LiveScan. It may be useful for historical reasons to also backup the logs folder with the database

but is not required to effectively restore your database in the future should the need arise.

You can zip/compress the files and copy them to any location you wish for safe keeping. You can also

use backup applications/services to automatically back these files up as well. You will need to contact

your local IT department to see what options are available to your site.
